About Us

Thank you for considering Wantirna Primary School for your child’s primary school education.  Selecting a school is a very important decision and we encourage you to arrange a tour to observe for yourself the wonderful learning experiences in which students are engaged at Wantirna Primary school.

Wantirna Primary School prides itself on providing a safe, secure and stimulating learning environment where students are challenged to reach their full potential academically, socially and emotionally.  We have a strong focus on wellbeing and our students, staff and parents promote the CARE values of Compassion, Achieve, Respect and Engage.

Students are encouraged to become life-long learners with the support of our outstanding teaching staff who are committed to improving outcomes for all students. At Wantirna Primary School, students develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes with our Inquiry Approach and a stand-alone Science program which enhances our teaching and learning program. Families and friends are invited to share in their child’s learning journey when students showcase their investigations at a Learning Expo which is held in the last week of each term.

Literacy and Numeracy skills are explicitly taught, with the strategies of CAFÉ Reading consistently used throughout the school. Our Writing Program incorporates the VOICES menu into a Writer’s Workshop Model.  Spelling is taught with a phonics basis and uses a visual chart based on THRASS. Mathematics teaching is based on the workshop approach developing skills in Number and Algebra and understanding of Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability. Throughout which students are challenged to achieve success at their level. Specialist programs are offered in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Physical Education and Languages (Mandarin).

We believe in a strong home-school partnership as well as community involvement in order to develop the whole child.  Parents are actively involved in all aspects of their child’s school life, including participation in School Council, the Parents and Friends Network and in support of excursions, incursions, camps and in school programs and special events.

Wantirna Primary School is known for being well connected with the local community, building strong partnerships with other primary schools and secondary colleges, Knox Council, and welcoming local volunteers.  The attractive and well maintained gardens, playgrounds and sporting equipment support students’ active participation in a healthy lifestyle. Wantirna Primary School offers a highly regarded Out of School Hours Care program, with both before and after care services available to families.

For students who are transitioning from Kindergarten, our ‘Fly Into Foundation’ Program assists students in becoming familiar with the staff, school setting and routines they will expect in their first year of school.
