Term Four, Week One

Upcoming Dates

From Our Principal

It has been great to see all our students return to school and especially wonderful to see the classes interacting out in the yard and playing together so well.  We have missed our friends.

I hope that you are all beginning to feel like life is beginning to return to normal.  I got a taste of that normality on Tuesday as my family travelled to Williamstown and had some fish and chips at the park.  It was nice to spend time together and enjoy such a sunny day.  I hope that all of our families enjoyed a similar opportunity to spend time together and reconnect with Melbourne, friends and/or activities you enjoy.

Now that we are returning to normal or at least sort of… our special events are back up and running.

Next week is the 100 days of Prep celebration on Wednesday.  Our Orienteering program will also start for Year 4/5/6 and the week after the Frisbee program will begin for all classes – these will be part of our Physical Education (PE) program for this term.

This week we are also sending out the note for the Swimming Program.  Dust off your swimmers! We will be walking to our local KingSwim pool each day in Week Nine and Ten.  It’s going to be great fun and an excellent way to finish off the school year.

So lots to look forward to this term, as we make up for all the time we have lost together and also begin planning for 2022.  We will announce what class everyone will be in by Friday 3rd December and everyone will find out who their teacher will be for next year too.

Let’s enjoy the rest of this year!  Thanks everyone – Again it’s wonderful to see you all back.

Remembrance Day

On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War.

The Australian Corps had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at a heavy cost. In the four years of the war more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them had died. The social effects of these losses cast long shadow over the postwar decades.

There are many ways to commemorate from wherever we are - at home, school or work - this Remembrance Day:

  • Observe a minute's silence at 11 am on the 11th November 2021
  • Explore the origins of Remembrance Day and it's traditions
  • Wear a poppy to pay tribute to the fallen
  • Read one of hundreds of articles about our veterans and their service
  • Make your own poppy or Remembrance wreath
  • Take a virtual tour inside the Hall of Memory
  • Share who you are remembering during the one minute's silence on Remembrance Day using the hashtag #WeRememberThem on social media

Our Year Six students are selling Remembrance Day items on behalf of our local RSL.  If you would like to purchase any items just bring between $1 and $5 to school and speak with a Year 6 leader.

Swimming Program

As part of the Health and Physical Education curriculum here at Wantirna Primary School, we include a swimming program for all grades from Foundation to Grade 6. The swimming program this year will be held over two weeks, with students attending daily sessions at Kings Wantirna Swim Centre, 141 Mountain Highway Wantirna 3152.

The Swimming Program is for all children from Foundation to Year 6.  It will commence on Monday 29th November.  There will be 10 sessions run over the two weeks, with the program concluding on Friday 10th December.

This is an excellent opportunity to extend the swimming ability of your child. Parents are unfortunately unable to attend due to KingSwim visitor policy.  We will ensure that a good ratio of school staff attend to support students before, during and following the program.

All children will be walking to the Kings Wantirna Swim Centre, leaving the school at approximately 12:00 pm and returning at approximately 2:00pm, with the program running 45 minutes earlier on Fridays (11:15am departure and 1:15pm return). The cost of the 10-session program is $100.00 per child.

Students will need to wear their swimmers to school under their uniform on swimming days and bring a swimming bag that contains a towel, underwear for changing into post swimming, goggles (if you need them), swimming cap (optional) and an additional snack (swimming is hungry work).

Dance Program

You might remember the Dance Group came out earlier in the year and taught all our students a fun dance.  Well, they will be back for Week Eight to teach us a couple more dances and then families will be invited in to see the performance and join in some dancing themselves on Friday 26th November (invitations to follow).  It will be great to all be together again.

The program begins on Monday 22nd November, our students will participate in a week long dance program of five sessions where they will learn some dances and participate in a movement program. This is a part of our Physical Education program for the year and it is expected that all students will participate. Pull out your dancing shoes!

Footy Roadshow

Our Footy Roadshow event is scheduled for Friday 26th November.  Sessions will be as follows:

11:30 – 12:30pm:  F/1C and 2/3T

12:30 – 1:30pm: 4/5/6

Parents (approved double vaccinated school visitors) and younger siblings are most welcome to attend on the day.  We would recommend bringing siblings to the first sessions where there will be smaller children and more opportunity for siblings to participate.  Just RSVP to let us know you are coming along.

Year Six Graduation

Whilst we were planning to keep graduation low key and school based, now that restrictions are easing and families are getting out and about we thought why not get a bit crazy? Information regarding Year Six Graduation is being distributed to families via Compass today.  We are very excited to host what we will be an amazing and well deserved celebration for our Year Six students at The Sebel Ringwood.  Check out Compass for more details and to RSVP.

Fly Into Foundation

Our ‘Fly into Foundation’ Program has been going along wonderfully and it has been great to receive some photos from parents of students participating.  Given the recent change in restrictions net Friday 12th November will be our final online session.  The remainder of our program will be as follows:

Friday 19th November:  9:00am – 12:00pm:  2022 Foundation students attend school to participate in classroom activities with Miss Lauren Chugg and Performing Arts activities with Miss Faichney.  Bring brainfood (fruit) and morning tea from home.

Friday 26th November:  9:00am – 3:30pm:  2022 Foundation students attend school to participate in classroom activities with Miss Lauren Chugg, PE activities with Ms. Caddy and watch our Whole School Dance Concert.  Bring brainfood (fruit), morning tea and lunch from home.

Foundation Parent Information Session

In order to welcome incoming parents to our school and give them the opportunity to see and enjoy what will be their child’s first classroom, parents are invited to join Miss Lauren Chugg and myself on Thursday 25th November at 6:30pm for our Foundation Parent Information Evening.   Please RSVP via Compass to let us know you will come along.  Best to leave children at home for this event as we will be talking more from a parent perspective about the transition to school.
