Student Welfare

Behaviour Management Policy

Wantirna Primary School has a whole school restorative practice behaviour management policy. All students are given the opportunity to reflect on how their behaviour impacts on their relationships with other students. Students, parents and teachers are involved in the reflective process.

Chaplain

Wantirna Primary School has a Chaplain funded under the Federal government’s Chaplaincy program. Our chaplain is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is there to support students, parents and staff. The chaplain is always happy to speak to anyone who is a member of the school community.

Kids Hope Program

Wantirna Primary School offers the Kids Hope mentoring program. This program enables students who may have special needs to be matched up with an adult mentor, who then spends an hour a week, one on one with their student as a special friend.

Brain Food

Every day students are given a brain food break so they can have fruit during the 2 hour morning block. This helps to keep the students stimulated and well nourished.

Nut allergies

As some students at Wantirna Primary School have nut allergies, students are encouraged not to share food to ensure the well-being of all students.

Transition programs

A number of Transition programs operate to ensure a smooth continuation of learning with each step in students’ progression through the school.

Prep Transition

Each year Wantirna Primary School fosters relationships with Kindergartens and child care centres and our Prep Transition Program begins in Early Term Two with a teddy bear's picnic and information evening for prospective parents. Our step into Prep program commences in Term 3 and introduces our future preps to their teachers.

Yr 3-4 Transition

Wantirna Primary School has an effective transition program for our students to move from the Junior Learning Unit to the Senior Learning Unit. Grade 3's spend time with their Grade 4 teacher and get introduced to some of the things they will be studying in Grade 4.
